The Make Nine Update: My Crafting Progress So Far This Year

You may have seen my previous post about the Make Nine challenge I decided to participate in this year. That was January and it’s now June, so let’s see how I’ve done!
Tweed Cardigan ❌
I had plans to knit the Step by Step Cardigan by Florence Miller, and as I write this post it is not yet on my needles but I do have all the yarn, the pattern, and an idea for the buttons! I anticipate this will be a fairly quick knit once it does get started, since it is all stockinette. It will definitely be a 2026 cast on, but we’ll see if it ends up being a finished object.
Stella Quilt Cushion ✅
I’m happy to say the Stella Quilt Cushion by Laura Penrose is a fun knit, and I am a little more than halfway done, buuuut it’s currently on hiatus since I’ve had other projects winning me over for a while. I absolutely plan to complete it soon.
A Silk Blouse ❌
I have the yarn and I’ve finally chosen a pattern – the Dappled Lace Raglan by James N Watts, however this project has not yet graced my needles. I am feeling a bit unsure that I’ll get around to it this year, but I am hoping to!
Cables, Cables, and More Cables ✅
While I wouldn’t call myself a cable expert by a long shot, I am definitely working a lot with cables this year. Traditional twisted cables no longer intimidate me!
Something Felted ❌
I haven’t made anything felted YET, but I definitely will. This project is falling by the wayside for me, perhaps under the illusion that it will be a really speedy process. In my head this will take a weekend max, so what’s the rush? … I definitely need to get to steppin’ on this one!
Intarsia Colorwork ❌
I am still in the dark about intarsia, and I am feeling a bit blah about learning. I would still love to make the Bloom Coaster, but I feel like there are more exciting things out there to chase right now!
As Many Socks As Possible ✅
I’ve been churning out so many socks that I’m a little burnt out on socks at the moment. That won’t last long, as they’re such a quick and easy project. I’ve already knit more than six pairs this year, and I always have at least one pair on my needles at any given time. I’ve also been using up a pretty solid amount of my sock yarn stash!
Ooey Gooey Cowl ✅
I finished the Ooey Gooey Cowl back in March and it was so fun! I really loved working with the color changing Spincycle yarn, and it’s such a cozy and unique piece! I’m looking forward to wearing it a bunch come winter.
Cardigan Buddy Knit ✅
The Minou Cardigan has been taking up most of my knitting time these days! It’s a gorgeous pattern but it is fairly slow going considering the fisherman’s rib cable pattern. I’m almost done with the length of the body, and then it’s just the sleeves and button band! Truth be told I’m terrified of knitting the button band… LOL! Wish me luck!

Honorable Mentions
These are things I’ve been working on that I didn’t include in my Make Nine, should they count? I’ll let you decide!
Mosaic Knitting
I completed the Nightshift Shawl by Andrea Mowry this month, and it was a labor of love. It was my first project ever using mosaic knitting techniques, which I had never really heard of before this! It definitely scratched the itch of trying something new, and I loved working on something fun and colorful!
Self-Drafted Colorwork Patterns
This one hit me out of left field. I wanted to make my best friend a pair of black and white socks for her birthday, and I couldn’t get the idea of a skull motif out of my head. I was considering purchasing a pattern, but I ended up playing around on Stitch Fiddle and coming up with one myself. The socks turned out awesome, and I’m planning to release the colorwork chart eventually.
What have you been making this year?
Let me know in the comments!
