The Amethyst Edit: Color Inspiration for February

Amethyst, February’s birthstone, is believed to bring the wearer many benefits, including clarity, wealth, and protection. The word amethyst is derived from the Greek ”amethystos” which means “a remedy against drunkenness.” Greek mythology ties the gem to Dionysus, the god of wine and reverie. Many also associate amethyst with the crown chakra, and believe it connects the wearer to higher consciousness.
In this post, we’ll discuss how amethyst can inspire you this month, from your jewelry to your home decor! Let’s dive into all the ways we can channel this stone’s creative and balanced energy 💜
BEAUTY | Floral & Futuristic
When it comes to beauty, purple seems to exist in one of two camps. You have the violet shades that are reminiscent of nature – lilacs and lavenders that are soft and feminine, and the plums and berries that lean more into depth and luxury. Then, there’s the punchy rave purple that demands attention. Ultraviolet, bright, electric purples with tons of shimmer or a color shift. At home on the dance floor, at a Y2K themed party, or in a video game set in the future.
For eyes, Half Magic Eyeshadow in Electric Butterfly is just as wearable as it is fun, Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Set List would be beautiful in a smoky eye, Laura Mercier Caviar Stick in Amethyst is a great all-over shimmer shadow, or keep it matte with Stila Liqua-Play Eyeshadow in Purple Peep.
Go for the classic OPI Lincoln Park After Dark for your nails or venture over into a newer shade called Grape Escape.
FOOD | Blackberries, Grapes, and Figs
Jewel toned fruits like blackberries, concord grapes, plums, and figs are just as delicious as they are beautiful. A cheese board with fig jam, blackberry compote, or a wedge of goat cheese aged with wine. Vegetables like purple sweet potatoes, eggplant, and purple cauliflower also deserve a spot on your table. Their vibrant colors bring interest to your plate while also adding in a good dose of antioxidants!
FASHION | Regal & Playful
Purple has long been associated with royalty, creativity, and mystery. Depending on your clothing preferences, you can choose to lean into the deep, moody elegance of aubergine or the light and breezy charm of lilac. With so much versatility, there are endless ways to incorporate amethyst essence into your wardrobe.
Try a flowy lavender blouse or a violet silk scarf. If you’re looking for something bold, a striking purple coat would be elegant and fun. A pair of velvet loafers in mulberry or some funky orchid sandals would bring a stylish twist to any outfit!
JEWELRY | Of Course!
It’s easy to bring amethyst to your jewelry box, since it is a semi-precious stone and typically available at relatively affordable prices. You could keep it simple with a delicate amethyst pendant, find a snazzy cocktail ring, or a go bold with a pair of statement earrings.
If you’re a vintage lover, seek out antique amethyst rings with intricate filigree settings. Amethyst is also commonly set in tandem with other stones, like rose quartz, turquoise or moonstones. You just can’t go wrong!
HOME | Balancing Light and Dark
Amethyst is believed to promote tranquility and positive energy, making it a lovely stone to bring into your home. Place an amethyst geode on your bedside table or in your living room to enhance relaxation and creativity.
For homewares, seek out plum velvet throw pillows, a cozy blanket for your couch or reading nook, light purple glassware or candle holders, or a lamp with a smart LED color changing bulb to enhance your quiet evenings and movie nights!
ENTERTAINING | Tea Parties and Magic Potions
Purple can add whimsy to a spring tea party or flavor and depth to a cocktail party spread. Keep an eye out for purple floral tea cups or lavender glazed ceramics when shopping antique or boutique stores. Craft a cocktail like an aviation featuring creme de violette or empress gin. For your centerpiece, choose a floral arrangement featuring purple tulips, lilacs, or lavender sprigs.
LITTLE THINGS | Calming Touches
Sometimes, it’s the little things that bring the most joy. You don’t have to go all out to add a little extra amethyst-inspired beauty to your day.
Used pressed violet flowers or a purple satin ribbon as a bookmark in your current read. Sort through your sweaters and add lilac scented sachets to your drawers. For a relaxed evening, light a candle that has notes of lavender and oak. Before bed, indulge in LUSH’s Sleepy lotion (one of my personal favorites) and enjoy a cup of jasmine herbal tea.
