The Best Bits: My August 2025 Favorites

The Best Bits is a monthly series where I tell you what I’ve been up to! What I’m doing, media I’m loving, and products I recommend! Here’s a fresh batch of favorites for your reading pleasure!

READING | Indie Authors

My best friend Emily and I spent a weekend in National Harbor, Maryland this month attending Once Upon a Con, a fantasy book convention. The convention itself was a bit of a sh*t show, but we had a great time nonetheless. The best part of the weekend was that we were able to meet and support a ton of independent authors! I walked away with two new books and a ton of titles added to my TBR (to be read) list!

WATCHING | The Four Seasons

David and I started watching this because we needed a little something light to break up episodes of Silo and a few other longer-form shows we were working our way through. We’re both fans of Tina Fey and Steve Carrell, so it was an easy pick. I really enjoyed this show, although it was a bit heavy handed with the foreshadowing which made it very predictable. I had no idea The Four Seasons was also a show in the 80s, so now I’m curious to go back and watch that and see how they compare!

WEARING | Old Navy Cotton Barrel Pants

These pants are so comfortable, seem like they’ll hold up for many years, and are just a touch unflattering in a cool-girl sort of way. I was hoping to find a few pieces this month to add to my work from home wardrobe, and these fit the bill perfectly. I’ve been dreaming of the idea of creating my own “uniform” so I can just roll out of bed, get dressed, and still look put together without having to put too much thought into it. I got these pants in 3 colors, and I’d say I’m nearly there!

EATING | All Things Grilling

Steaks, chicken, sweet corn, burgers, and sausages, I just can’t get enough of the grill right now!

SIPPING | Blueberry Smoothies

David and I were lucky enough to recieve a vitamix blender as a wedding gift and we are OBSESSED with it! As soon as it came out of the box I whipped up a pitcher of bluberry smoothies with peanut butter and greek yogurt. We all loved them, and even Cherry has been enjoying it as I froze some of the leftovers in her pupsicle treat mold!

INDULGING | Print Magazines

Oh boy, a wave of nostalgia hit me like a ton of bricks earlier this month, and I was longing for the seventeen and teen vogue magazines of yesteryear! Of course we have instagram and pinterest now, but there was just something special about the hayday of print magazines. I let myself miss them so much that I subscribed to Better Homes & Gardens. My first issue should arrive soon! Long live print media!

ADMIRING | Birkenstock Boston Clogs

I’ve been eyeing these clogs for a hot minute, but I do feel a bit conflicted. First of all, the last time I tried Birkenstock Arizonas, I was not a fan. They rubbed my toe in a weird way and I just didn’t like them. Second of all, these clogs do stir up a little bit of a weird feeling in me, because they were all the rage when I was in middle school, and I remember quite a few of the mean girls wearing them back then! I don’t have any true birkenstock related trauma, but that mean girl association is a consideration when making a purchase! 🤣 If you have these, let me know what you think of them!

OBSESSING | PaperMate Inkjoy Gel Pens

These pens are my absolute favorite!! They’re so easy to write with, they come in every single color under the sun, and they haven’t smudged or bled when I’ve used them so far! I love them for journaling, using in my planner, and for writing letters and thank you notes!

CELEBRATING | Bridal Shower + Cherry’s Birthday!

This month I headed to Pittsburgh with my mom and my bridesmaids to attend the most gorgeous bridal shower thrown by my future Mother in Law. We had a lovely weekend exploring the city, spending time together, and enjoying all the goodies at the bridal tea party! I felt so loved! Another big celebration, our little puppy turned ONE! We got her a little peanut butter cake at the local dog bakery, she got a birthday lambchop, and we took her swimming. She’s still not the most confident swimmer, but since water is literally in her name (she’s a Portuguese Water Dog) we know she’ll be all about it by this time next year!

What are your favorite things this month?

peanut butter eggs that might just be better than peanut butter eggs that might just be better than that one famous brand 😉

recipe:
2 cups sugar
½ cup milk
¼ cup butter
6 ounces peanut butter
3 oz marshmallow creme
⅓ cup all-purpose flour
1 bag chocolate chips or melting wafers

Add sugar, milk, and butter to a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil and stir continuously for 5 mins, then remove from heat.

Stir in peanut butter and marshmallow creme, then slowly incorporate flour and stir until combined.

Pour mixture onto a pan lined with parchment paper and allow to cool for about 30 minutes. When cool enough to handle, shape into eggs, insert a toothpick into each one, and allow to set completely. Then chill in the fridge or freezer for an hour or more to avoid any melting when dipped.

Melt the chocolate, dip each egg, allow to harden and enjoy! 🍫😋
