welcome to thyme + butter!

Hello friends! You’ve stumbled across thyme + butter, the corner of the internet where I’m excited to share all the things I love. This space is dedicated to celebrating the little things in life, those small yet special moments that make every day magical.

I’m Jess. For more about me, check out my author page!

The idea for thyme + butter was born in 2023 when I started a newsletter to share my favorite recipes on Substack. I’ve been posting there for about two years, and it has been so fun to see family and friends making my creamy mushroom soup or my southern buttermilk biscuits! While writing my newsletter, I quickly realized I wanted to do more, so I decided to take another big step and start publishing here! If you’re a Substack subscriber, don’t fret, the newsletter community isn’t going anywhere. You can sign up here to get a new recipe in your inbox every month! All those recipes are also a part of the thyme + butter blog, and joy of all joys, each and every recipe page now has a print button! On this blog you’ll also find exclusive content that won’t be posted over on Substack! To view all of my recipes, click here.

Cooking and baking are cornerstones of this blog, as they are some of the most special ways to honor our loved ones and bring people of all walks together. No matter your age or where you’re from, I believe that each and every person has a unique perspective and blend of flavors worth bringing to the table. There’s so much to learn and share in the kitchen, and my heart just bubbles over when I think about it! So novice cooks, experienced professionals, and everyone else in between, pull up a seat with me and we’ll dig right in!

Now that we’ve touched on cooking, here are a few other topics you can expect to see covered on thyme + butter!

Seasonal Living

Grasping everything each season has to offer has been a goal of mine for many years. Staying in the present moment, from the delicate blooms of spring to the frosty crunch of winter, I’m excited to share ideas for celebrating the natural rhythms all around us. Setting a festive spring table, crafting a summer picnic, or turning your home into a snuggly retreat during fall and winter. Expect seasonal recipes, tips, and little rituals to make each time of year feel special.

Crafts and Creativity

This blog is also a place for all the crafters, dreamers, and makers out there. Whether I’m experimenting with a new knitting pattern or trying my hand at a whimsical DIY project, I’m always chasing my creative sparks. Crafting isn’t just about the finished project, it’s about the joy of creating something with your own two hands! I can’t wait to share tutorials, inspiration, and even a few mistakes along the way.

Gardening and Nature

Few things bring me more peace than spending time outdoors. My garden is my happy place, where I can dig my hands in the soil, tend to my plants, and marvel at the beauty of it all. You’ll find posts about cultivating your own garden, even if it’s just a few herbs on a window sill, as well as musings on connecting with nature in all its forms. I’ll also share seasonal garden updates, tips for beginners, and ways to bring a little of the outdoors inside.

Personal and Interior Style

I believe our homes and closets are wonderful places to express ourselves single every day. I’ve always loved vintage style and creating cozy, welcoming spaces that feel unique to me. Here, you’ll find my journey toward honing my personal style, tips for decorating on a budget, and ideas for making your home your happy place. Whether it’s curating a capsule wardrobe, finding the perfect thrifted treasure, or putting the finishing touches on a room, I’m here to help you embrace your own sense of style!

Thank you so much for being here, I hope you’ll stay a while! 🌿🧈

lessons from my garden this year🍐🥕🌷 1. Yo lessons from my garden this year🍐🥕🌷
1. You really can’t beat the satisfaction of building something from nothing.
2. When in doubt, choose the most colorful option.
3. A garden really doesn’t cost anything except time, money, blood, sweat, and tears.
4. It pays to plant your rows neatly, even if it takes twice the time.
5. Herbs and tomatoes are always a great start.
6. The juice will be worth the squeeze, especially if you like squeezing!
7. It’s true what they say... hoeing ain’t easy!
8. Pests come in all shapes and sizes. For us this year, it was wind and deer.
9. For a gardener, the saying should be “nothing is certain except death, taxes, ticks, and poison ivy”
10. When it comes to flowers and friends, the best ones are perennial 💐

What are you growing lately? 🩷
